So I was reading up on a couple studies about PMS. Is it a myth or is it real?? 

With the studies claiming that PMS is a myth, looked at the link of emotional reactions to the female cycle. Their studies showed that there was a small percentage of women who’s emotional state linked to their cycle, but the majority did not. So, if it is a myth, why did they just admit that a certain percentage of women were linked to PMS? So what they are basically saying is that majority of women in their study do not have emotional reactions to their cycle. 

Under the symptoms of PMS are physical symptoms like headaches, bloating, cramping, joint pain, etc up to a week before the cycle begins. So even if you do take out the emotional link, is their still PMS, or is PMS still a myth?

I may not be more irritable before my period begins than I am all month, but I do feel more sensitive-like getting teary at feel good moments and cry over small stuff-also I crave fries with salt and chocolate (I usually do not like salty stuff or chocolate), and have cramps and blow up like a balloon.

Longest Day of My life…..

This is probably gonna be the longest day of my life…. I should say the longest time in my life. You think it is bad enough not being able to go back to your normal work for 4 months and still waiting on a CT scan to see the extent of your injury, but today I had to go to the doctor to see what is going on with my neck. Since late last year, I have been suffering from pain in my neck. It started off every now and then waking up in the morning, then evolved into pain everyday. Some days worst than others. Then about a month ago, it felt like my spine was being crushed. My neck and my body just felt weak and I feel over onto the bed. It was so painful…. I felt dizzy and it felt like I was gonna go deaf…. after that, I have been feeling tingles and numbness in my fingers on both hands. It’s most evident when I have a pain attack in my neck, but is always there.

The doctor this morning said he is gonna try and get me into a specialist ASAP. He wants an MRI done on my neck to see if there is anything pushing on my spinal cord…

Why me? Why is this bad luck happening to me? First I might have to get surgery on my knee, now, if anything is pressing against my spinal cord, that is a major and risky surgery!

It would mess up my school, my jobs, my life. Then on top of that I will still have my knee injury….

It is gonna be the longest day of my life. Bouts of crying, feeling sorry for myself, and not to mention that it is always going to be on my mind until I find out what is going on…..

It makes me wonder what I did to deserve this…. I am only 21 years old and everything lately is just getting to be too much…

I don’t know what to do.

Under 500 Calorie Spaghetti and Garlic Toast!


So, I picked up Slim Pasta the other day. It is very similar to Miracle Pasta. It is a plant based noodle that is low calorie and high fiber. It contains no fat, no carbs, no very low in sodium (0.7 mg per serving), and no sugar. This type of noodle has a long history and is found often in Asian countries. For each serving of the pasta, it only contains 15 calories and 5.1g of fiber! 

So this is something that I came up with tonight. I modified it so it could serve 4 people according to how much sauce I made (didn’t think I would end up with extras) so left over spaghetti and you could make healthy sloppy joes if you run out of pasta! 🙂

2 pack of Slim pasta: 55 cal
1 Small white onion: 28 cal
1/2 orange bell pepper: 18 cal
5 mushrooms: approx 20 cal
1 large tomato: 33 cal
1 Avocado: 118 cal
Approx 1 cup Hunt’s Original Tomato Sauce- 100cal
1 pkg Yves Veggie Cuisine Minced “meat”: 300 cal
1/8 cup shredded partly skim mozza cheese per serving: approx 60 cal
2 slices weight watchers whole wheat bread per serving: 80 cal
1 tbsp Philadalphia Herb and Garlic Cream cheese per serving: 45 cal

Finely chop all your ingredients. Place onion and pepper in a pan. Fry for about 5 mins, or until soft. Add the faux minced meat, mushrooms, tomato, avocado and tomato sauce. Cook until heated. Follow directions to cook Slim pasta. Basically rinse, boil for a min or 2, drain and pat dry with paper towel. Toast 2 slices bread, spread on the cream cheese (can use any flavor you like, I wanted similar to garlic bread). Place a serving of pasta on the plate, top with sauce. Enjoy! If your alone, you could even have seconds of the pasta! 🙂

Pasta, Sauce and Cheese: 228 calories
“Garlic” toast: 125 calories
TOTAL: 353 calories! 
If you don’t have the toast you could always get seconds at 456 calories!

I topped my meal off with Liberte Organic 1% Chocolate milk! If you want to cut calories more, you could opt out of having garlic bread (or just have one), don’t add the cheese and have it with a glass of water for a filling meal! 🙂

Menstruation Products Review!

I know society has long made us believe that this matter should be not talked about, shunned, that is a disgusting part of nature. But yet, there are no problems talking about doing the duty or anything else that is deemed “a gross topic”. I am talking about the famous “time of the month”.

I grew up thinking that this is a topic not to discuss, that is was a gross, revolting topic that should never be brought up. Well, it is just as natural as any other thing on this planet, so why not talk about it?

I have had mine now just before I turned 12….. so that’s 10 years now! After living with my boyfriend for almost a year, I can basically talk about everything with him now. So I told him about the product that I started using again, and I forget why I ever stopped.

It is known as the Diva cup. Mine is the Femmecup. There are many other reusable menstrual cups out there like mooncup etc. There is one called the soft cup, which is very similar to the reusable ones but they are to be thrown out after each use. There are different sizes and makes just like anything else you use for the week or I guess in some cases just a few days (LUCKY!!).

It takes time and practice to be able to use this product. I found out that the best way is to have it covering your cervix, so I always have to adjust it. You are able to wear these over night, but I find I toss and turn way to much so it is deemed useless, so I usually go to pads for overnight.

I find this is a really good product otherwise. Before using, I would keep track of how heavy your flow is. With these cups, you can keep them in for up to 12 hours (they are proven not to cause TSS), but in cases of heavy flow, I find that you need to rinse them out about every 5-6 hours instead.

They are like a little plastic cup that you fold and insert like a tampon. Believe me when you have to play with it a bit in order to get it right! It took me a couple of months to be able to get it right. So during those months, I switched back and forth between the cup and pads until I was able to use the cup with little to no problems.

The plus with this is cost reduction. I spent about 30 dollars CAD for a reusable cup that can last up to 5 years! Before then, I had to buy a pack of pads or tampons (about 10-20 dollars every 2 months) so over the 5 years I would save between 270-570 dollars within those 5 years! Amazing!! This is the first time that I did these numbers.

Say out of 270 dollars, I could buy 135 coffees, 27 take out meals, 5.4 weeks of groceries ($50 per week) or put that money into a RRSP for retirement and let it earn interest! 🙂

It is very simple to take care of the cup. Before and after each period, you sanitize before using. You can boil water and boil it for 3-5 mins, or the method that I use, I have toy cleaner that doesn’t break down the rubber and sanitize it that way.

Just do your research to find the best for you, you may have to experiment with a couple different brands to get the right fit.

The problem I have with pads are that they feel plain weird. I always had an issue of feeling less that clean, that they didn’t fit right, they didn’t absorb well, until I the newer always infinity came out. I like those. They keep you dry and absorb so much! They also leave you feeling a little bit fresher, not by much, then other pads. I find that they leak a lot less too. You can also get lightly scented ones, which I enjoy near the end.

I used tampons for the longest while. I liked that fact that it absorbed inside and you felt cleaner than wearing a pad. But I hated it in other ways. Where they do absorbed inside your body, I found that a lot of times it made the vagina wall very dry. So sometimes it was painful to change, even though I used tampons for my needs that day. My fav tampon was O.B. It had less waste, they were a lot smaller and you had to insert it yourself which was great cause you could position it a lot better than ones with applicators.

I found that the cup does not make it dry (cause it doesn’t absorb), and it cuts down on odours.

It is all about preference! 🙂

Also, I like the wet wipes for the gym….. use them once you are finished for a refreshing clean feeling after sweating during your workout. I usually keep these in my gym bag because sometimes I workout on my lunch break or in between jobs.

Life Sucks.

You know the saying; when life gives you lemons make lemonade? They don’t specify that life gives you sugar to make lemonade. So what now? You take a sip and screw up your face to the sour taste. Don’t get me wrong, I love lemons and sour candies, but sometimes it can make you so tired. You live day by day to the best as you can. It sucks, its hard, and sometimes you don’t know where to go next or how to deal with stuff. I have my partner leaving for 7 weeks on Sunday, which is the hardest thing ever. I start 2 jobs next week and I have no idea what to do with my life. Some days I just want to sleep the day away especially when I am looking forward for something. On the other hand, am I the only one that thinks that time is flying by? I mean, it is almost July! It is crazy! The apartment is almost packed, I still need to clean the place top to bottom, then once my partner gets back it will be about a week and a half or less before we have to move. So much for some time together when he gets back. It’s been on thing after another…. trying to pack, having the place up to our eyeballs trying to get everything packed, he leaving for 7 weeks, then having to move as soon as he gets home. How do military wives do that? At least this is the last extended time for a long time……

Stove Top “Chili”

I found a recipe for chili…. but I didn’t really follow it to the tee and made my own version of it. So here it is!

pkg ground beef
1 Green pepper
1 sweet onion
1 tin Romano Beans
1 tin dark red kidney beans
1 tin stewed tomatoes
2 tbsp flour
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp cumin
1 tsp chives
1 tsp oregano
salt and pepper to taste
2 cups rice (uncooked)

Cook rice according to directions. 
Finely chop the onions and green peppers then add them to a frying pan with ground beef.
Cook until the ground beef is a little bit pink.
Add Kidney beans. Stir. 
Add Tomatoes and spices. Stir.
Add romano beans and stir. 
Cook until hot. Add more spices if needed.

Serve over hot rice and done! I did this recipe (including prep) in about 30 mins!

Japanese Dramas!

I have watched a few Japanese Dramas the past week. They are really good…. but they are tear jerkers. I always end up picking the most depressing Japanese dramas there is like 1 litre of tears, which is about this girl who is diagnosed with a nerve degenerative disease and her struggles with the disease. The others that I have watched lately are:

Seigi No Mikata: Story of two sisters, in which the older one is a “demon” as to say, always ordering her sister around. It is a pretty good comedy. 

Seito Shokun!: Story of a teacher that is assigned to a class in which a incident that took place a year before the show begins shatters their trust in adults. It is a hart warming story of the teacher trying to win the trust and find out what exactly happened to the students that left them jaded.

Hanayome to Papa: Story of a girl who’s father is over protective and tries to break free of this protectiveness. Office love story, it has really great heat warming and touching scenes. It is about love, determination and moving on.

Innocent Love: Story of a girl who lost her parents to an arson. She is shunned because she is the sister of a murderer. She meets a guy who devotes his life to his love (who is in a non responsive state due to an accident), and the love story develops from their. 

I know these are vague descriptions but believe me they are great dramas if your into the Japanese Drama scene.
